How to create a signature request

Send a document to a signer for biometric-verified signing. Takes about two minutes.

Before you begin

1Open the New Request view

From your dashboard, click New request in the sidebar. You'll see a form with three sections: Document source, Attestation type, and Signer & files.

2Choose your document source

You can either upload a fresh PDF, or reuse a saved template. If you have a template saved, pick Use a saved template and select it from the dropdown. Otherwise, leave Upload a new document selected.

3Pick the attestation type

The attestation type determines the wording on the certificate and what the signer sees during the ceremony. Choose the one that matches what you're asking them to do:

TypeUse it for
Contract signatureStandard agreements, engagement letters, leases
ApprovalInternal sign-offs, budget approvals
ReviewDocuments requiring confirmation of review
Informed consentMedical, legal, or financial consents
AcceptanceTerms of service, policy acceptance
WitnessWitnessing another person's signature

4Enter the signer details

In the Signer section, enter the signer's full legal name (as it should appear on the certificate) and their email address. If you need multiple signers, click Add another signer — up to four additional signers can be added.

Use the legal name. The name you enter here appears on the certificate and in the public verification record. "Alex Morgan", not "Al" or "A. Morgan". This is the name that a court or auditor will see.

5Upload the document and reference photo

Drag your PDF into the Contract PDF drop zone. Then drag the signer's photograph into the Reference photo drop zone. See Add a reference photo for guidance on picking a good one.

6Review and send

Before sending, check:

Click Send to signer. The transaction appears in your Transactions list immediately with status created.

What happens next

  1. The signer receives an email with a signing link. The link is unique to this transaction and expires after a set window.
  2. When they open it, they see the document, are asked to review it (scroll-locked to the end), accept a biometric consent notice, and then complete the six-step verification ceremony.
  3. If verification succeeds, the certificate is generated and emailed to both you and the signer.
  4. If verification fails, the signer sees a plain-language reason and you are notified. After three failed attempts, the transaction is permanently failed and you must create a new one.

Troubleshooting

ProblemFix
"PDF required" errorSome PDFs have unusual headers. Re-save the file from your PDF editor as a standard PDF and try again.
Signer never receives linkAsk them to check spam. From the transaction detail view, use Resend link if needed.
Signer's video won't startSigner must use a desktop or laptop with a working camera. Mobile is currently not supported for the ceremony.
Verification fails repeatedlyCheck that the reference photo actually shows the signer's face clearly. See Add a reference photo.
